Notes
Purple mountain saxifrage (Saxifraga oppositifolia) is a perennial for containers and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes part sun or part shade and dry to average, sandy or loamy soil. It forms a dense, low mat of evergreen stems, no more than 2 inches high. Crimped magenta or purple petals with brownish orange anthers make the flowers stand out, since most saxifrages have white ones.
Pairs well with Sweet white violet, Crested wood fern, and Spring Beauty Siberian squill.
