Notes

'Red Giant' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Red Giant') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Lyman D. Glasscock bred it. The large, semi-rose blooms open carmine-red with silvery edges in mid to late spring. Stems are long and stiff, and the dark green leaves add contrast.

Pairs well with Great blue lobelia, Woolly yarrow, and Sedge.
