Notes

'Red Head' Japanese pieris (Pieris japonica 'Red Head') is an evergreen shrub for specimen planting, foundation beds, and borders. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Fragrant flowers open from winter into spring and attract bees and butterflies. It grows slowly and forms a dense shape. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal.

Pairs well with Siebold's hosta, Lady fern, and Saucer magnolia.
