Notes
'Mountain Fire' Japanese pieris (Pieris japonica 'Mountain Fire') is a shrub for foundation plantings, specimen use, borders, and hedges. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Its new leaves flush bright red and mature to deep green, and fragrant, white, bell-shaped flowers appear in clusters in spring. Deer tend to pass it by. It grows slowly, so give it room to reach its full size.
Pairs well with Japanese forest grass, Autumn Frost hosta, and Korean spice viburnum.
