Notes

'Valley Valentine' Japanese pieris (Pieris japonica 'Valley Valentine') is a shrub for borders, containers, specimen planting, and foundation planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. It is evergreen and has a dense, slow growing habit. Fragrant maroon flowers open in winter and spring and draw bees and butterflies.

Pairs well with Korean spice viburnum, Blue fescue, and Johnny jump up.
