Reed avocado

Garden uses

Notes

'Reed' avocado (Persea americana 'Reed') is a tree grown for fresh eating and buttery fruit. It grows outdoors year-round in USDA zone 9 and warmer, down to about 20°F (-7°C). In colder areas, grow it as a houseplant or bring it indoors for winter. This plant likes full or part sun. The round green fruit can reach 12 to 18 oz, some of the largest of any avocado. It is an A Type, so it needs a B Type nearby for cross pollination to get fruit on both trees.

Pairs well with Saucer magnolia, Bobo hydrangea, and Miscanthus.
