rhododendron

Notes

Rhododendron (Rhododendron strigillosum) is a shrub for woodland gardens, shade borders, and foundation plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade. It blooms early, from early to late spring, with deep red bell-shaped flowers and dark red nectar pouches. Each flat truss holds 8 to 12 flowers. The long leaves have bristly, recurved edges that add interest all year.

Pairs well with Lady fern, Snowdrop, and Spice bush.
