Notes

Rose spirea (Spiraea douglasii) is a shrub for borders, hedges, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. Rose-pink, fuzzy flower spikes open from early to late summer and attract bees and butterflies. It spreads by rhizomes, so plant it where hardscape can control its spread. Deer tend to pass it by.

Pairs well with Switchgrass, Wild bergamot, River birch, and Ostrich fern.
