Notes

'Rotstrahlbusch' switchgrass (Panicum virgatum 'Rotstrahlbusch') is a grass for borders, accents, winter interest, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet, sandy or clay soil. It forms a clumping mound that grows 48 to 60 inches tall. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Pink-tinged blooms attract butterflies and birds, and the foliage turns color in fall.

Pairs well with Big bluestem, Blue star, Great blue lobelia, and Red twig dogwood.
