Notes

'Royalty' peony (Paeonia 'Royalty') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Light purple to magenta flowers with black flares open in early to late spring and attract butterflies. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Derek Irvine bred it in 2001.

Pairs well with Blue wild indigo, Blue-eyed grass, Grape hyacinth, and Big bluestem.
