Notes

'Rubens' apple (Malus domestica 'Rubens') is a tree for the food garden. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. The fruit is a bicolor dessert apple. It is a cross between 'Elstar' and 'Gala', and the Italian company C.I.V. bred it. Bees visit the spring flowers, and the dense tree grows at a moderate pace.

Pairs well with Jerusalem artichoke, Anise, and Cinnamon fern.
