Notes
'Ruutel' clematis (Clematis 'Ruutel') is a vine for borders, containers, cottage gardens, and privacy screens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. Bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and birds visit the flowers. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Give it a trellis or fence to climb, and look for blooms in spring, summer, and autumn.
Pairs well with Peony, Caradonna sage, Iris, and Invincibelle Ruby smooth hydrangea.
