Notes

'Satsuki-beni' Japanese maple (Acer palmatum 'Satsuki-beni') is a tree for specimen, accent, and woodland use. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. It grows slowly into a broad shape. Reddish-purple spring flowers attract bees and birds, and the leaves turn color in fall.

Pairs well with Smooth hydrangea, Bracken, and Switchgrass.
