Notes

'Seneca Chief' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Seneca Chief') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The wine colored blooms have a yellow center and crimped, cupped petal edges in a lighter shade of wine. They open early in spring above heavy, dark green foliage. Ernest Flint Kelsey bred it.

Pairs well with Nepeta, Pincushion flower, and Sedge.
