Notes

'Shawnee Papoose' peony (Paeonia 'Shawnee Papoose') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It forms a dense, bushy mound with large, rich red single flowers that smell sweet. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Butterflies and bees visit the blooms.

Pairs well with Royal Standard hosta, Standing Ovation little bluestem, Yarrow, and Queen of Night tulip.
