'Shinsei' apple (Malus domestica 'Shinsei') is a tree for the food garden. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It has a dense growth habit and grows at a moderate rate. Bees visit the flowers in early to late spring. Shinsei came from a cross of 'Yellow Delicious' and 'Early McIntosh'.
Pairs well with Red pine, Lupine, Little bluestem, and Queen of Night tulip.
