'Shùn zǐ' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Shùn zǐ') is a shrub for borders, perennial beds, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It grows upright to 60 inches tall. Fragrant, rose-like, semi-double flowers of light reddish-purple open in mid to late spring, each with dark red flares at the base.
Pairs well with Siberian iris, Prairie dropseed, and Grape hyacinth.
