Notes

'Sioux Chief' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Sioux Chief') is a perennial for borders, perennial beds, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Ben Gilbertson bred it. It bears single, bright red flowers with a flat form from mid to late spring into early summer. The stiff, straight stems reach about 30 inches and hold the blooms well, with bright green foliage below.

Pairs well with Wild bergamot, Blanket flower, and Japanese spirea.
