Notes
'Sir Frederick Stern' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Sir Frederick Stern') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Purple, semi-double to double flowers with dark flares open on tall, strong plants. The blooms appear in early summer above dark green foliage. Sir Peter Smithers bred it.
Pairs well with Nepeta, Cinnamon fern, and Carnaval De Nice tulip.
