Notes
'Smnivdfc' Virginia sweetspire (Itea virginica 'Smnivdfc') is a shrub for pollinator gardens, hedges, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet soil. Fragrant flowers appear in spring and summer and draw butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and birds. It sits low on the menu for deer. The arching stems reach 24 to 36 inches tall and wide, and the leaves change color in fall.
Pairs well with Inkberry, Ostrich fern, and Karl Foerster feather reed grass.
