Notes

'Little Henry' Virginia sweetspire (Itea virginica 'Little Henry') is a shrub for borders, rain gardens, foundation plantings, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet, loamy or clay soil. It has an arching shape and tolerates wet soil. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds visit the fragrant blooms, and the leaves turn red in fall. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Oakleaf hydrangea, Sedge, Ostrich fern, and Joe-pyeweed.
