Notes

'Softly Spoken' peony (Paeonia 'Softly Spoken') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Derek Irvine bred it, and it blooms in early to late spring with cream flowers shaded coral-red and edged deep pink. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Butterflies visit the blooms.

Pairs well with False indigo, Niobe clematis, Big bluestem, and Grape hyacinth.
