Notes
Nippon spirea (Spiraea nipponica) is a shrub for borders and hedges. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy or clay soil. White flowers open from spring into early summer and attract butterflies. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. The arching mound grows fast to about 36 to 48 inches tall and wide, and it handles dry spells well.
Pairs well with Limelight hydrangea, Bowl of Beauty peony, and Spanish bluebell.
