Notes

Spreading sedge (Carex laxiculmis) is a grass for shade gardens, woodland plantings, ground cover, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet soil of most types. The blue-green leaves stay evergreen, and the clumps reach 6 to 12 inches tall. It sits low on the menu for deer. Birds and butterflies visit it.

Pairs well with Solomon's seal, Lenten rose, Lady fern, and Oakleaf hydrangea.
