Notes
Sprenger's asparagus fern (Asparagus densiflorus) is a perennial for borders, containers, and shade gardens. It grows outdoors year-round in USDA zone 9 and warmer, down to about 20°F (-7°C). In colder areas, grow it as a houseplant or bring it indoors for winter. This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist soil of most types. Its arching green stems stay evergreen and bring fragrant white blooms. Birds visit it, and it handles drought and salt. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal.
Pairs well with Praying Hands hosta, Japanese forest grass, and Fringed bleeding heart.
Native range
Temperate southern Africa.
