Notes

'Storm Cloud' blue star (Amsonia tabernaemontana 'Storm Cloud') is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, pollinator gardens, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet soil of most types. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. The new stems emerge near-black and hold masses of light periwinkle blue, star-shaped flowers. The main bloom comes in late spring, and it often reblooms for many weeks afterward.

Pairs well with White Swan coneflower, Little bluestem, and Spotted joe-pye weed.
