Notes
'Sumner' common hop (Humulus lupulus 'Sumner') is a vine for privacy screens, accents, and specimen plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet, loamy soil. White blooms open in summer and again in autumn, and the fragrant plant draws butterflies. Deer tend to pass it by. Give it a sturdy trellis to climb, since it grows fast.
Pairs well with Common milkweed, Big bluestem, and Dogwood.
