Notes

'Sundown Shadows' peony (Paeonia 'Sundown Shadows') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Dark red blooms open in early to late spring and blacken toward the center. Derek Irvine bred it, and butterflies visit the flowers. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice.

Pairs well with Heather, Bells of Ireland, Niobe clematis, and Buffalo grass.
