Notes

'Tama-no-genpei' bishop's hat (Epimedium 'Tama-no-genpei') is a perennial for shade gardens, woodland gardens, ground cover, and rock gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows 12 to 18 inches tall, spreads up to 24 inches, and bears reddish-purple and white flowers. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Give it room under trees to fill in as a low carpet.

Pairs well with Wood lily, Western sword fern, and Yellow trout-lily.
