Notes

'Tamate-boku' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Tamate-boku') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It blooms in mid to late spring with enormous, cupped petals of dark old-rose-pink. The flowers are faintly fragrant and have thread-like staminodes in the center. Strong stems hold the blooms upright on a pyramidal plant.

Pairs well with Fire Island hosta, Western sword fern, and Carnaval De Nice tulip.
