Notes
'Thunderbird' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Thunderbird') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It bears medium dark red bomb-shaped blooms in early midseason. The stems are tall and stiff, so they hold the flowers well. Edward Auten, Jr. bred it.
Pairs well with White Feather hosta, Immortality iris, Sedge, and Black chokeberry.
