Notes

'Thunderbolt' peony (Paeonia 'Thunderbolt') is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, perennial beds, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. The single blooms are deep crimson with black or scarlet streaks and have 10 to 13 petals. They open in early to late spring above finely cut foliage.

Pairs well with David garden phlox, Blue fescue, Carnaval De Nice tulip, and Spiderwort.
