Notes

'Ursula' painted lady fern (Athyrium niponicum 'Ursula') is a fern for borders, rock gardens, and shade gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Its arching fronds reach 12 to 18 inches tall and wide, and it needs little care.

Pairs well with Patriot hosta, Japanese forest grass, and Lily of the valley.
