Notes

'Valentine' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Valentine') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Red semi-double blooms open in late spring around a bright yellow circle of stamens. Hollingsworth Nursery introduced it in 2004. The stems are strong, so the upright plant holds its flowers well.

Pairs well with Nepeta, Scentara Double Blue lilac, and Sedge.
