Notes

'Valley Forge' American elm (Ulmus americana 'Valley Forge') is a tree for specimen planting, shade gardens, rain gardens, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows fast, and bees, butterflies, and birds visit the green spring blooms. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Give it room for its arching form.

Pairs well with River birch, Oakleaf hydrangea, Sedge, and Cardinal flower.
