Notes
'Velvet' pink (Dianthus chinensis 'Velvet') is a perennial for borders, containers, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. The fragrant, dark maroon blooms have lacy white edges and attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. It stays under 12 inches tall and forms a tidy clump.
Pairs well with Silver sage, Fountain grass, and Garlic chives.
