Notes

'Violetta' purple mullein (Verbascum phoeniceum 'Violetta') is a perennial for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. Flowers open in spring and again in summer, and they draw butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Iris, Poppy, Purple Sensation ornamental onion, and Autumn moor grass.
