Notes

'Wagener' apple (Malus domestica 'Wagener') is a tree for the food garden, grown for fresh eating, cooking, hard cider, and drying. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. George Wheeler bred it in the 1790s. It blooms from early to late spring, and bees visit the flowers. The fruit ripens late in the season.

Pairs well with Pink Lemonade blueberry, Magnus coneflower, and June hosta.
