Notes

'Washington' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Washington') is a perennial for borders and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Guerin bred it in 1850. The fragrant, rose-colored blooms open mid-season, and the silver-tipped centers stand out against dark green leaves. Plants grow erect and medium tall on strong red stems.

Pairs well with Wide Brim hosta, Sensitive fern, Miss Kim lilac, and Carlton daffodil.
