Notes

Western white pine (Pinus monticola) is a tree for specimen planting, privacy screens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Deer tend to browse other plants first. Its soft, blue-green needles grow in groups of five, and it stays evergreen all year. Blister rust is a serious disease of white pines, so watch your tree for signs of it.

Pairs well with Slippery elm, Winterberry, and Little bluestem.
