Notes
Wood fern (Dryopteris tokyoensis) is a non-flowering fern that grows 18 to 36 inches tall and 18 to 36 inches wide. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes part to full shade and average moisture. Rabbits tend to nibble other plants first. Because it spreads as wide as it grows tall, give each plant plenty of room in the garden. Its fronds add soft texture to a shady bed.
Pairs well with Lady in Red lady fern, Bergenia, Chinese ground orchid, and Climbing hydrangea.
Native range
Africa, Guinea, and Ivory Coast.
