Notes

Climbing hydrangea (Hydrangea petiolaris) is a vine for specimen use, privacy screens, shade gardens, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Fragrant white flowers open in early to late summer and draw bees and butterflies. It sits low on the menu for rabbits. Give it a sturdy wall or tree to climb.

Pairs well with Halcyon hosta, Western sword fern, Green Spice coral bells, and Susan magnolia.

Native range

Asia, Kuril Is., and Sakhalin.
