'Yan Ru Yu' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Yan Ru Yu') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Early to mid spring brings white, semi-double flowers with light purple flares at the centers. The blooms are 16cm across, face upward, and carry a light fragrance. The upright, slightly spreading plant needs no mechanical support.
Pairs well with Liberty hosta, Quick Fire panicle hydrangea, and Big bluestem.
