Notes
Yellow avalanche-lily (Erythronium grandiflorum) is a bulb for meadow gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and moist soil. Nodding yellow flowers with curled-back petals open in spring, often as the snow melts. The plant goes dormant before summer, so grow it near late-emerging perennials like hostas and toad lilies. Protect the corms from gophers.
Pairs well with Canada wild rye, Canadian goldenrod, and Thalia daffodil.
