Notes

Dog's tooth violet (Erythronium dens-canis) is a perennial for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and dry to moist soil of most types. Purple flowers open in early to late spring and attract bees. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. It grows 8 to 12 inches tall and wide, so plant it in drifts.

Pairs well with Fringed bleeding heart, Snowdrop, and Lenten rose.
