Notes
'Akbar' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Akbar') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The Japanese type flowers have overlapping rose-red petals and bright gold staminodes. Colonel Jesse C. Nicholls bred it as a seedling of 'Mikado'. It grows tall, has a good habit, and blooms well.
Pairs well with Smooth hydrangea, Sedge, and Grape hyacinth.
