Notes
'Akito' bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Akito') is a shrub for hedges, accents, shade gardens, and foundation plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows fast with an erect habit and flowers from early to late summer. Deer rarely make it their first choice. It also tolerates salt.
Pairs well with Aureola Japanese forest grass, Lady fern, and Wood sorrel.
