Notes
'Albert F. Holden' lilac (Syringa vulgaris 'Albert F. Holden') is a shrub for borders, specimen planting, hedges, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil of most types. Fragrant flowers open in early to late spring and attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. It also tolerates salt. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal.
Pairs well with Woodland phlox, Hardy geranium, Clematis, and Picture tulip.
