Notes
'Amethyst' bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Amethyst') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, containers, and shade gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Shell pink to pale lilac blooms appear from early to late summer, and the plant tolerates salt. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Cut a few stems for bouquets.
Pairs well with Japanese forest grass, Christmas fern, and Pagoda dogwood.
