Notes

'Australis' peony (Paeonia 'Australis') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Single to semi-double flowers open in spring and start light pink, then fade to light red-purple. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. Red-purple flares at the center of each upward facing bloom make an unusual color mix for this type of peony.

Pairs well with Blue Angel hosta, Balloon flower, Greig's tulip, and Ostrich fern.
